Our schools no longer perform vision screenings for our children. A child may not be able to see well enough to compete with their peers on an academic level and have no idea that they cannot see well. At Na Maka Apau, we want to give each school on the Big Island of Hawaii a vision screening kit in an attempt to discover vision problems that could negatively affect a child's academic progress.
We want to be a part in helping each child achieve their academic potential. Be screening each school aged child, we hope to alleviate any visual issues that can hamper a child's academic success.
We hope that you can help us in our efforts. Any donation will be greatly appreciated.
In an effort to correct this situation, Na Maka Apau wants to equip each school on the Big Island of Hawaii with a vision screening kit. This kit will include vision charts for near and far acuity, color vision screenings and stereo acuity. There will also be instructions to assess gross ocular muscle movement with a cover test and ocular allergies. A report can be sent to parents when a visual screening is complete.
We feel that if a child can succeed in school, it will enrich their lives and the community that they are part of. We are asking for your help through donations so that we can make this happen for our students here on the Big Island of Hawaii. This is a daunting task but if we can positively impact our 100 schools here. We would also like to reach out to the under-served schools on the islands of Molokai and Lanai.
